Technical documents can be found in a very wide range of subjects: commercial agreements; product labeling; information technology; scientific reports;
statistics and mathematics; patent documents; instruction manuals; warranties; engineering specifications. There's really no end of topics. (See:
Industry/Sector Groups Served). The particular demands of technical
documents go beyond the baseline skills of having to be an outstanding writer or linguist.
The reality is that technical documents have to be translated by translators with established competency in a given topic or subject. Many, but not all,
technical translators have a background in the field that they have chose to translate in, e.g. engineering, medicine, science, information technology (IT), law,
etc.
Our role as a translation agency is to identify the required skill set, source the appropriate translation resource required, secure the services and
coordinate the assignment.
How do you determine whether or not a document submitted for translation qualifies as a technical document? See our definition of technical translation.
